100 Billion Dollars

100 Billion Dollars

Hayley Woods

My vision of being rich is having anything I want because I have enough money to buy whatever I wish, at anytime and not having to worry about "having enough money". Also being rich to me means that I will never run out of money no matter what I buy or spend it on.  If I was given a 100 billion dollars, the first thing I would do is put some into my savings account at the bank so when I finish high school, I can pay my own way through post secondary and have debt at the end of it. The next thing I would do with the money is give a small portion of it to my parents so they can pay some of the bills they may have off. A few things I would buy with the money before it is all gone would be a newer lifted truck, an apartment for post secondary school, and I would buy one thing that would be very special to me... my grandpa's restored 1981 restored Chevy pickup. The list would go one with things I would buy. But one final thing I would spend the money on would be tickets for a vacation for my entire family. With the hours my dad works, my sister and I being in school all the time and my brother having his own family it would be a perfect opportunity to have a vacation and relax with my entire family. If I had to pick one place to spend time with my family it would be Bora Bora due to the amazing landscape and true beauty.

Don't Stop Believin- Journey

The song 'Don't Stop Believin' was wrote and sang by a band named Journey. They  were on American band that sang rock n roll.'Don't Stop Believin' was released on October 6 1981 on the label "Columbia". To this day, it still is a very interesting and popular song.
I believe the meaning of the song it two people leaving their home town to pursuit their future career. The two people are a boy and a girl, later on in the song they meet up again and become friends. The song says they are from "South Detroit". Knowing how Detroit is, I think this couple has been exposed to drugs, sex, and rock n roll. But the reason the song is called "Don;t Stop Believin" is because no matter how tough or hard life gets, always push through, see the positive in the negative, and to always follow your dreams.
This song has a meaning to me and I can relate to some of the song. While I lost my grandma a few years ago, I went through a very hard depression. Hearing this song no reminds you of how things get better and just to keep moving forward in life, no matter what happens. A part of the song that I really like and is repeated " Don't stop believing, hold onto your dreams". I like this song and it has meaning because it is like words of encouragement. Hearing words like that in a song makes you want to keep going and never give up!

                                                              "Don't Stop Believin'"

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlight people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night

Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlight people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night

[Instrumental interlude]

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlight people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

2014 Compared To 1950

2014 Compared to 1950

Hayley Woods

2014:
-people follow others just to fit in; meaning everyone follows people because they don't want to stand out or look different from other people
-when people see something on television they have to have it;seeing clothes, cellphones, jewelery, etc on television people feel the need that they HAVE to have it
-outfits and style have changed (short shorts, crop tops, etc)
-technology; a lot of learning is done online or using ipads; instead of writing on a whiteboard or chalkboard we use smart boards
-songs; they are sang about anything and do not really have a meaning; and example of this would be Bang Bang by Jessie J
-social media; many people have facebook, twitter, instagram
-cellphones; instead of going and having a one on one conversation, most conversations turn into texting or a phone call
-children receiving ipads from the school board to use until the end of highschool. this is pathetic, we went to grade one and two to learn how to write and use paper and a pencil. by the time my genertion has kids, they won't need to attend school because it will be all online and on technology.
-culture has changed. many families used to go to church every sunday and have time spent with family, but that isn't what most families to/or did in 2014.
